Naysayers will return borough to ‘Dead Bank’

This letter is in response to the letters to the editor of The Hub regarding the council meeting on Monday, Aug, 28. I attended that meeting and according to Mr. Bill Meyer the meeting was something that “resembled a ‘Jerry Springer Show.’ ” He was absolutely right!

John Curley was the clown who acted so bizarrely that night with his out of control behavior by jumping out of his seat with his ranting, “Why don’t you just take me down to Broad Street and hang me!”

He should accept responsibility for his lack of direction and control over the finance committee. Mr. Curley willingly admitted, “I’m not a qualified accountant or CFO and I don’t know anything about finance.”

For 14 years, prior to Mr. Curley’s “leadership,” under the direction of other council members (Ivan Polansky and Tom Hintelmann), there were never any financial problems, let alone one that cost the borough taxpayers $400,000.

If Mr. Curley was half a man, he would state that, yes, he was a big part of the problem instead of the whining that it was not his fault. This is the man that wants to run this borough! He would run it all right … right into the ground!

As far as Mr. Bill Meyer is concerned, here is a man that as we all have been made aware, does not live in town; therefore, he is not a voting resident in this borough.

Yes, he is a partial owner in some business property in the borough, but be aware of the fact he has cost the borough taxpayers thousands of your dollars by filing lawsuit after lawsuit to stop some redevelopment projects in the borough.

Don’t let this group of naysayers lead you to believe that these projects are going to cost you money. Quite the contrary! These are very desirable ratables. These projects bring new tax moneys into the borough’s coffers. And again, let me state that these projects are part of the redevelopment of a town that 16 years ago nobody wanted to move to, much less admit that they even lived here!

Now this borough is a model for other towns that want their towns to be “just like Red Bank.”

I would like to know where these “gloom and doom” people were 16 years ago when this borough was boarded up and you could not give your house away. They were no where to be found. I’m sure that the folks that are running for council with Mr. Curley were not even living in this town at that time. They probably moved here within the last 10 years because of what Red Bank is today. A thriving municipality!

Yes, no administration is perfect and there are problems that every municipality faces; that will be an ongoing status with any thriving, living entity. If you do not change you will die! You must change and change for the good.

We have achieved so much in the last 16 years and we should continue to change and grow. That’s the lifeblood of any town. If you want to see the borough of Red Bank return to the borough of Dead Bank then, yes, vote for John Curley and his ticket, because that will bring us back to Dead Bank!
