School board elections will be held April 19 for seats on local boards of education in the following towns:
Fair Haven Board of Education
There are nine seats on the Board of Education, with three open. Five candidates are running for the three three-year terms. The incumbents are Lee S. Clay, Hance Road; and Kelly Zaccaro, Dogwood Lane. Challengers are E. Mary Chiarella, Forrest Avenue; Jules Rambo Slootsky, Fair Haven Road; and Arlene Matthews Uhl, Hillcrest Road.
Little Silver Board of Education
There are seven seats on the Board of Education, with three open. Six candidates are seeking to fill the three three-year seats. Incumbents seeking re-election are Douglas Glassmacher, Carlisle Terrace; and James J. McGuire, Mitchell Place. Challengers seeking the board seats are Louis A. D’Alotto III, Laurel Drive; Lisa Gilmour, Lippincott Road; Cynthia Mendoza, Parker Avenue; and Eric A. Wasserfall, North Sunnycrest Drive
Oceanport Board of Education
There are nine seats on the Board of Education, plus one representative from Sea Bright. Four seats are open: three are for three-year terms and the fourth is a one-year unexpired term. Four candidates are running for the three three-year terms. The incumbents are Robert Huber, Gooseneck Point Place; Richard McKenna, Sagamore Road; and William A. Kaloss, Smith Street.
Seeking a seat for the first time is William George, Riverbend.
Running for a one-year unexpired term are incumbents Joseph Henderson, Port-au-Peck Avenue; and Kelly McGowan, Mohican Road.
Red Bank Borough Board of Education
There are nine seats on the Board of Education. Three three-year term seats are open, and one two-year unexpired term is up for election.
Incumbents seeking re-election are Rosemarie Kopka, Highland Avenue; Janet Jones, Newman Springs Road; and Peter Noble, Leighton Avenue.
Challengers are Ben Forest, Locust Avenue; and Lisa Cureton, Harding Road.
Red Bank Regional High School District Board
There are three seats on the regional board of education, one for each of the sending towns. All three seats are open, and three incumbents are seeking re-election for three-year terms.
They are: John Garofalo, Wallace Street, Red Bank; James M. Ronan Jr., Strauss Drive, Shrewsbury; and Peter Roskowinski, Maple Avenue, Little Silver.
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School District Board
There are nine seats on the regional board of education. Three seats — one from Fair Haven and two from Rumson — are open.
Incumbents seeking re-election to three-year terms are Kathleen Gasienica, Robin Road, Rumson; and Ann Rossbach, Shrewsbury Drive, Rumson.
Challengers are Thomas Minmaugh, Cypress Court, Fair Haven; Beth Puma, Sunnyridge Drive, Fair Haven; and Peter Richardson, River Road, Fair Haven
Rumson Board of Education
There are three seats on the Board of Education, with all three open.
Seeking re-election to three three-year terms are incumbents Linda Decelle, Somerset Drive; Chalmer Taylor, Ward Avenue; and Anthony Miller, Bingham Avenue.
Shrewsbury Borough Board of Education
There are nine seats on the board, with three open. Five candidates are running for the three three-year term seats. Three are incumbents and two are running for the first time. The incumbents are Lisa Porada, Brady Road; John Kupilik, Wakefield Court; and Michael Losch, Constitution Drive. The newcomers are Susan Patterson, Alameda Court; and Laura VanVelthoven, East End Avenue.
Tinton Falls Board of Education
There are nine seats on the board, including a seat to represent Shrewsbury. Four candidates are competing for two three-year seats. One incumbent, Sharon Fernandes, Cloverdale Circle, is seeking re-election. Attempting to regain a seat on the board is Peter Karavites, of Sycamore Avenue, who served for three terms before being defeated in his run for a fourth term last year. New to the race this year are Steven Schertz, Harvard Avenue; and Tom Guiser, Cherry Street. No candidate has filed to run as a replacement for the Shrewsbury representative, who moved out of district.
