Melanie Pomerico, Tinton Falls, and Colleen Lineberry, Ocean, recently took first place and honorable mention, respectively, at the 18th annual juried art show sponsored by the Brookdale Community College alumni association, Lincroft section of Middletown. Pomerico won for her photo "Dad Has Cancer," and Lineberry for her acrylic painting "Jersey Peaches." Artwork will be displayed in the gallery at Brookdale’s center for visual arts through June 14. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, named the following local students to the spring semester dean’s list:

Lane Cyboron of Fair Haven, a senior majoring in industrial systems engineering at the College of Engineering;

Jonathan Ritacco of Ocean, a senior majoring in psychology at the College of Science;

Adam Loucks of Little Silver, a junior majoring in finance at the R.B. Pamplin College of Business;

Andrea Kaplan of Long Branch, a senior majoring in architecture at the College of Architecture and Urban Studies; and

Charles Harris of Oceanport, a senior majoring in aerospace engineering at the College of Engineering.

Erica J. Green, Oceanport, recently received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education at the spring commencement ceremony at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Emily L. Muhlhausen, Tinton Falls, recently received a bachelor of arts degree cum laude with honors in English at the spring commencement exercises at Drew University, Madison. Muhlhausen is a 2000 graduate of High Technology High School, Lincroft section of Middletown.

Grade school students from Holy Cross School, Rumson, and Schroth School, Wanamassa section of Ocean Township, will hold a garden party May 18 beginning at 10 a.m. at Schroth. The event will consist of students from both schools planting seeds, plants and flowers, formal opening ceremony, and ribbon-cutting by representative students from both schools. The garden was the idea of Holy Cross students that visited Schroth and were fascinated by an entire classroom of plants and flowers. The garden will feature a sensory section, Victorian section, Lenni Lenape and vegetable area, a butterfly bush and flowers, as well as raised box garden area. The entire garden is set up to enable the Schroth School students the experience and joy of gardening.
