The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, recently received three-year accreditation for its mammography system.
The accreditation was given by the American College of Radiology (ACR) after a comprehensive evaluation which included an assessment of the staff’s qualifications and the adequacy of facility equipment.
The center also holds ACR accreditation for stereotactic breast biopsy and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy performance. The center also passed the annual FDA inspection for compliance with requirements for mammography performance and quality.
The Wilentz center has also been chosen to participate in a clinical trial to decide whether digital mammography is able to detect breast cancer more accurately than the film screen method. Monmouth is one of two New Jersey hospitals chosen as a clinical site for the digital mammographic imaging screening trial.
The trial is being conducted through the ACR imaging network.
