Fair Haven boy raises $500 for SPUR
Tom Heiss, a 13-year-old Fair Haven resident, recently raised $500 for Special People United to Ride (SPUR) as part of a service project Tom completed this summer. The funds enabled SPUR to purchase 13 new saddle pads.
Using his artistic talents, Tom created horse-themed note cards priced at $10 each to raise the $500. Tom also volunteered at SPUR’s Sunnyside Equestrian Center barn, cleaning stalls, and feeding and grooming horses.
The facility let Tom choose how he would like the money to be used, and he chose saddle pads.
SPUR is a therapeutic horseback riding program of the Monmouth County Park System. For more information, call the equestrian center at (732) 224-1367. The TDD machine number is (732) 219-9484.
