RUMSON — The borough Police Department is investigating a series of nighttime burglaries of unoccupied homes.
The crimes have occurred in sections of the borough consisting of smaller, middle-class homes, police said.
A suspect was observed attempting to enter the first-floor window of a home, according to police.
The suspect was described as a white male with dark hair and a mustache, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build, and between 20 and 30 years old. The suspect was described as wearing a distinctive crucifix necklace.
Police are urging residents to keep their doors and windows locked and the interior and exterior of their homes well lit.
Residents also should remove any valuable items, like jewelry, from areas such as the master bedroom, and store them in a less accessible place.
Police are asking residents to report any suspicious persons or activity in their neighborhood immediately.
A $1,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the crimes.
