RUMSON — The borough Planning Board will continuing the public hearings on the proposed subdivision of the Holly Farm/Tredwell House property on Nov. 29 at 8 p.m.
Arthur and Leslie Parent, who own the six-acre parcel at 16 Ridge Road, have applied to subdivide the property into four one-and-a-half acre lots to be developed as single-family homes.
The application has drawn opposition from neighbors and others in the community who say the property has historical significance and who do not want to see it developed.
On the property rests what is commonly called the Tredwell House, one of the oldest structures in Monmouth County.
The Parents have made offers to preserve the structure, the oldest part of which is nearly 300 years old, most recently offering to move it to one of the four lots for preservation.
A group taking the name Preserve Rumson has opposed moving the house as well as developing the property.
The application has also been opposed by others interested in historical preservation, contending any disruption to the building or the surrounding property would compromise its historic integrity.
Rumson has no ordinance requiring preservation of historic buildings or prohibiting building on what some consider historically important land.
The meeting will be held at Callman Hall in the Borough Hall, 80 E. River Road.
