– Animal Hall of Fame accepting nominations
The New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association is accepting nominations for the 20th annual Animal Hall of Fame.
The Animal Hall of Fame honors the human-animal bond in the state of New Jersey.

To be considered, all nominations should include an official application signed by the animal’s owner or animal welfare nominee, the name and contact information of the nominee’s veterinarian, and a letter of nomination from the nominee’s owner or veterinarian explaining how the animal has exhibited special abilities or has demonstrated courage. Nominations may also include additional letters of support, photographs, videos, drawings or newspaper clippings.
The submission deadline is Dec. 1.
Inductees will be honored at a public awards ceremony scheduled for March 8, 2015, at the Wyndham Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center in Florham Park.
– Concert to benefit mother, newborn son
A concert to benefit Jaclyn Squillace Olsen, a 26-year-old area resident who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer when she was five months pregnant with newborn son Nicholas, is set for 3 p.m.-1 a.m. Nov. 29-30 at Knights of Columbus Council No. 426, 308 Fourth St., South Amboy. The event is sponsored by Sayreville Education Association Pride and Knights of Columbus Council No. 426.
Scheduled performances will include The Sayreville War Memorial High School Jazz Band at 3:20 p.m.; Patsy Palmer with Amber Morgan, 3:40 p.m.; Series of Shocks, 5 p.m.; Split Decision, 5:30 p.m.; Seven Stone, 6:15 p.m.; John Walsh, 7:45 p.m.; The Fog, 8:45 p.m.; and Killer Joe and the Lido Soul Revue, 10 p.m. The concert also will feature Michael Squillace (SaxSkillz).
There will be a free buffet, a cash bar, raffles and a 50/50. A minimum $25 cash donation will be collected at the door.
Jaclyn is the daughter of Denise and Ron Morgan of Sayreville. All proceeds from the concert will help defray the ongoing financial expenses of the illness so Jaclyn can focus on winning her battle against the disease.

– Special-needs fitness to be topic at library
Angelo Fiouris, a certified personal trainer, will speak about the benefits of fitness for challenged adults and children at a program set for 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Old Bridge Public Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.
The event is designed to provide information for caregivers and/or relatives of individuals with special needs.
Admission is free of charge. The public is invited.

– Vendor spots open at Christmas Carnival
St. Thomas the Apostle HSA will host its Christmas Carnival 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 13 at the school, Route 18, Old Bridge.
Vendors are sought. Table-rental fee is $50. The event will feature family activities including bounce houses, shopping, photos with Santa, trackless train rides, face painting, boardwalk games and more.

– Club offers trip to see ‘Scrooge Unplugged’
The Sayreville Seniors Thursday Club will sponsor a Dec. 3 trip to see a performance of “Scrooge Unplugged” at The Gramercy at Lakeside Manor, 410 Route 36, Hazlet.
The comedy is about Charles Dickens’ tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. Audience members will be selected to play minor roles at the performance.
A bus will depart at 10:30 a.m. from the Mickey Sedlak Recreation Center parking lot on Dolan Street in Sayreville. The bus will return around 4 p.m.

– Seniors can apply for Elks scholarships
High school seniors who are American citizens and intend to pursue a four-year degree can apply for the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship 2014-15.
The Elks National Foundation funds 500 scholarships annually from $4,000 to $50,000.
