In order to meet the growing public demand for composting programs and supplies, Monmouth County is once again offering composting workshops to local residents.
Upcoming workshops are being held on the following dates:
• Sept. 23, 10 a.m., Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown.
• Sept. 25, 7 p.m., Freehold Township Municipal building, Schanck and Stillwells Corner roads.
• Oct. 4, 7 p.m., Millstone Community Center, 463 Stagecoach Road, Clarksburg section of Millstone Township.
• Oct. 16, 7 p.m., Ocean Township Recreation Center, West Park Avenue.
• Oct. 30, 7 p.m., Spring Lake Heights Community Center, Ninth and Ocean Road.
• Nov. 4, 10 a.m., Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown.
Attendance at the workshop is free. Those interested in buying a composting bin, offered by the county to residents at discounted fees, must include the appropriate fee with their registration.
There are two bins to choose from: the Earth Machine, an enclosed bin suitable for composting kitchen and garden materials, available for $25; and the Handy Composter, an open bin suitable for composting garden materials, available for $10. There is a limit of one of each type of bin per household.
