The Sayreville Soccer Association will be holding open tryouts for the following teams: U18 boys, U17 boys, and U17 girls. Tryouts will be held at the Soccer Complex on Bordentown Ave. on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13. Interested players must attend one of the two dates. The Monroe Township Girls Soccer Association will be holding registration for its 2002 season on Jan. 14 and Jan. 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Monroe Township Recreation Center for grades K-12. Fees are $75 for one child, $70 for a second child, $65 for a third child, and $60 for four children and up. Managers and coaches are also needed.
Work bonds are not required, and previous work bonds will be deducted from registration fee. Registration may also be done online at www.leaguelineup.com/ mtgsa.
The Monroe Township Soccer League will hold registrations on Jan. 8 and Jan. 24 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the township’s recreation center. Fees are $20 (ages 3 1/2 and up), $35 ages 5 and up), with a late fee of $15 after Feb. 1. Registering on time is the only way to guarantee placement on a team. Uniforms will be distributed at registration. To exchange sizes, please bring any old uniforms.
The Jersey Nightmare, a central New Jersey based girls’ fastpitch softball organization, are holding open tryouts to complete their 12U (born 1989 or later) roster for the 2002 season. An established program looking for dedicated players, it holds indoor winter practices. Tryout dates are Jan. 17 and 19. Wrestlers from the Sayreville Middle School wrestling team and the Sayreville Recreation Department Wrestling Program entered the 17th annual Middlesex Borough Wrestling Tourna-ment Dec. 30. Middle School wrestler Eric Tsang finished fourth in the 90-pound Junior Division, and teammate Shaun Redding finished third in the 145 Intermediate Division.
The Recreation Department’s entrants fared well, with 45-pound Gary Siriday taking first place in the 49-pound Bantam Division, Billy Johnson taking second place in the 110-pound Midget division. There were also several third-place winners, including Dominick Forcella in the 70-pound Bantam division, Nick Richiusa in the Bantam Heavyweight, and Shawn Dahl, who took third at 70 pounds in the Midget division. The tournament, which featured over 400 of the best wrestlers from around the state, featured representatives from recreation programs, middle schools, wrestling clubs and the N.J. State Wrestling team.
