Getting the most votes is supposed to matter

Elections are pretty basic in concept: Whoever gets the most votes wins. That is, unless you are the Republican Party in Old Bridge.

How does one justify Sen. Sam Thompson’s actions displacing from the ballot incumbent Councilwoman-at-Large Debbie Walker, who received 55 of 56 votes and was the first choice of the Republican Committee members who met to select their slate? You cannot justify Thompson’s decision to dictate that Walker be replaced on the ballot with the lowest vote-receiver, Brian Cahill, who received only 18 votes. Internal party politics aside, this smells. This is pure disrespect for the hard work of Debbie Walker in favor of a Thompson crony.

I urge all Republicans and independents to turn out on primary day, June 2, and vote for Debbie Walker, who will be on a separate ballot line, and for Dr. Anita Greenberg, who will bring an honest, public-first voice to the Township Council.
