Charles E. Newbury
Mr. Newbury, 78, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., formerly of Old Bridge, died May 2. Surviving are four children, Charlie Newbury of Lehigh Acres, Jeff Newbury and Diane Spychalski, both of Old Bridge, and Loretta Newbury of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Fred Johnson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Christ United Methodist Church, Lehigh Acres. Interment was in Forest Green Cemetery, Morganville section of Marlboro. Irene Zulin Stolte
Mrs. Stolte, 74, of Aberdeen, died May 11 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in South Amboy, she resided there before moving to Aberdeen 44 years ago. Mrs. Stolte was a bus aide for the Big Yellow Bus Co., Morganville. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Stolte, in 1997; two sisters, Dorothy Noviski and Rose Letts; and a brother, Michael Zulin. Mrs. Stolte is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Michele Stolte of Hazlet, and Daryl and Jude Stolte of Keansburg; two brothers, George Zulin of Sayreville and Joseph Zulin of South Amboy; a sister, Elena Wahler of South Amboy; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn L. Backfisch Hibberd
Mrs. Hibberd, 85, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died May 12 at her daughter’s home in Aberdeen. She was born in Maplewood. Mrs. Hibberd was a purchasing agent at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad. She was predeceased by her husband, George H. Hibberd, in 2002; a brother, Charles Backfisch; and two sisters, Margaret Auth and Dorothy Esslinger. Mrs. Hibberd is survived by four daughters, Donna Kipila of Barnegat, Denise Reisert of Aberdeen, Debra Ordner of Hope Valley, R.I., and Dawn Bittner of Freehold; a brother, Robert Backfisch of Virginia; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, followed by interment at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Gilbert Gross
Mr. Gross, 92, of Old Bridge, died May 1 at home. Prior to his retirement in 1978, he was employed as a maintenance worker for Anheuser-Busch Inc., Old Bridge, where he worked for 47 years. He also served as an officer with the East Brunswick Police Department from 1946-48. His wife, Agnes Denker Gross, died in 2005. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Bennett of East Brunswick; two sisters, Mary Pekarski of East Brunswick and Elizabeth Gross of Highland Park; and two grandchildren. A service was held at Simpson United Methodist Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Elizabeth M. “Betty” Forman
Mrs. Forman, 81, of Old Bridge, formerly of South Amboy, died May 13 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are three daughters, Susan Mattsson of Old Bridge, Linda Romanowiz of Stuart, Fla., and Rose Ziola of Union Beach; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment was in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy.
Edna C. Dipner
Mrs. Dipner, 85, of the Toms River section of Dover, died May 4 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Charles David, died in 1968. Surviving are a son, Greg of Monroe; a brother, Edward T. Walsh of Richmond, Va.; and a grandson, David. Services were held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
Mildred H. Arhberg
Mrs. Arhberg, of Allentown, formerly of Old Bridge and the Morganville section of Marlboro, died May 15 at home. Surviving are her husband, William A.; a son, William R. of Willingboro; a daughter, Jane Garnich of Allentown; and three grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 10 a.m. on May 18 at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Interment will follow in Forest Green Memorial Park Cemetery, Morganville.
Christine Towers
Mrs. Towers, 56, of Freehold Township, formerly of Old Bridge, died May 9 in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Surviving are her husband, Larry Towers; a son, Brian, and a daughter, Jennifer, both of Freehold; two brothers, Jim Cherry of Seminole, Fla., and Jack Cherry of Port Jefferson, N.Y.; and two sisters, Diane of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lori of Florida. Interment was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Michael V. Cicolella
Mr. Cicolella, 54, of Ocean Gate, formerly of Old Bridge, died May 14 as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Dover. He was employed as a baker with Stop and Shop, Lakewood, for the past 18 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Rita and John Cicolella. Surviving are a son, Kenneth Cicolella of Sayreville; two daughters, Ann Marie Cicolella of Lake George, N.Y., and Rose Mary Cicolella of Ocean Gate; his companion, Patricia Ward of South Amboy; four brothers, John of Spotswood, Victor of South Toms River, Alex of Old Bridge and Louis of Atlantic City; three sisters, Christine Cicolella of Florida, Diane Kane of Woodbridge and Elizabeth Kornias of Hopelawn; and five grandchildren. Visitation is set for 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on May 18 at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville. Services are planned for 11 a.m. on May 19 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.
