SAYREVILLE — The manager of a local fast-food restaurant was robbed of some $2,000 as he was leaving to deposit the money in the bank, according to police reports.

The manager of Wendy’s restaurant on Ernston Road, whom police declined to identify, told authorities that as he was leaving the restaurant about 9 p.m. Jan. 6, he spotted a man in a ski mask walking swiftly toward him.

The assailant had his hand inside a black backpack that he wore in front of him and blocked the manager’s access back into his restaurant, according to police reports. The two then re-entered the restaurant together.

Once inside, the suspect brandished a handgun, which the manager described as black with a brown handle, police said. He then pulled the restaurant’s telephone out of the wall and said, “I know you, but you do not know me. I want your night drop and all the money in the safe,” according to police.

The manager, who was accompanied by two other employees, did not resist and gave the suspect all of the money, about $2,000. The manager told police the assailant then, upon leaving, instructed him to wait 10 minutes and not to call police.

According to reports, the manager described the suspect as a black male, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 260 pounds. In addition to the black ski mask and backpack, he wore a gray jacket, dark gray pants and gloves.

A check of the area came up with negative results, according to reports.
