The Raritan Bay Cougars Football & Cheerleading organization, Old Bridge, has had an exciting few weeks. RBC for the first time, has two football teams that won the Central Jersey Championship. And as icing on the cake, the Midget Cheer Squad has won the Central Jersey Championship title as well.
The Midget Cheer Squad placed first at the Central Jersey Competition on Oct. 15 and also at the state qualifier on Oct. 29. Coached by Valerie Castle, the girls have been working hard to perfect their routine for the Regional competition on Nov. 13.
The Jr. PeeWee Football team (ages 8-11) is undefeated thus far. These 10- and 11-yearolds have fought through some hard games. Guided by head coach Garry Weber, they played the first half of the championship game on Oct. 29 during the nor’easter that slammed into New Jersey. The boys on both teams were wet, cold and hurting. Officials decided to postpone the second half of the game. At the end of the first half, there was no score. Play resumed on Nov. 2, when the Cougars came out with a roar. They won the championship game 20-0.
The Midget football team (ages 11-15) also faced the Iselin Giants for the Central Jersey title on Nov. 2. The Midget team has faced some worthy opponents this season and has had an almost perfect season. Guided by head coach Allen Giles, they were prepared for this championship game and have in fact been waiting almost three weeks to play this game. The Cougars came out and scored on the first kick-off of the game and then scored the two extra points, making the score 8-0. That would be the final score of this defensive battle.
The teams move on to the Regionals. For more information on the Cougar teams as they move on, log onto the website www.raritanbaycougars.org.
