Sayrewoods South Men’s League announces registration for its 11th year of men’s baseball that will take place on March 23 and 31 at the Old Bridge Civic Center on Route 516/Cottrell Road from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The regular season consists of approximately 20 games and runs from early June through October. Games will be played Monday-Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m., noon or 3 p.m. at Geick Park in Old Bridge. Registration fee is $200 cash or check due at registration and non-refundable after April 15.

New players must try out on April 18 from 9 a.m.-noon at Geick Park. Players must be at least 30 years old by June 1. A picture identification and copy of birth certificate is required for new players. Background check of age will be made. Any questions, call (732) 679-7803.

The Old Bridge Rockets soared to a 3-1 victory Sunday at Higgins Field in Old Bridge. This was the Rockets’ first game and first victory of the season. Goaltender Alejandro Diaz, and defenders Christian Llerena, Jordan Moretti, Init Patel and Harry Grewal lead the charge with a tremendous effort. Nick Petruzzi opened the scoring in the 11th minute with an unassisted goal from just outside the penalty circle. Nick Santurro scored his first of the season in the 24th minute, off a Llerena corner kick. Adam Eyerman scored in the 38th minute from a pass by Petruzzi. Sami Abdisubhan and Charles Mantione played extremely well in their first game as mid fielders. Shawn Orzechowski, Sean Safari, Eric Medina, Caine Czerula and Steven Contreras provided spirited play in a total team effort.

The Sayreville Recreation Wrestlers attended the Metuchen Grapplers Tournament on March 14. Taking first place were Connor Hullings, Alex Yanuzzelli, Billy Johnson, Noel Santiago and Ramon Santiago. Taking second place were Bryan McMahon and Corey Lynch. Also wrestling were Joey Greco and Raymond Campbell.

The Old Bridge Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a Rutgers SAFETY Clinic (Sports Awareness For Educating Today’s Youth). In order to be eligible for the civil immunity protections, volunteer coaches are required to attend a safety orientation and training skills program. The Rutgers SAFETY Clinic is based upon the Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills programs and has been tested in court as having met the standards.

The clinic for all sports will be held at the Old Bridge Civic Center on March 29 from 7-10 p.m. In-person registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Twelve people are required in order to run the clinic. The cost will be $30, cash only.

Registration will be taken at the door and will be limited to the first 200 people. Interested individuals are asked to bring a pen or pencil, and will receive a certification card and coach’s book at the end of the clinic.

The Monroe Township Soccer Club’s Spring Kickoff Tournament will be held on April 24. Now in its 15th season, the M.T.S.C. Spring Kickoff Tournament is an annual, one-day soccer event held at the Thompson Park Soccer fields in Monroe Township. The tournament features up to 160 club teams, of all levels, from the tristate area playing on 20 fields all within close walking distance. Boys and girls teams from U8 to U19 are flighted based on their individual competitive level of play.

U11 and above play two 50-minute games with trophies given for first place, silver medals given for second and bronze medals for third. U10 and below play three 35-minute games in round-robin format, and all players receive a participation award. For more information, go to www.monroesoccer.com.
