Board must disclose methods of allocating school-bus funds

If your child uses the school bus to get to and from school, you need to know that elimination of school-bus transportation is being threatened for some of our children.

Old Bridge Board of Education officials do not appear to be allocating schoolbus transportation funds equitably. As a result, some of our children must walk approximately a mile to and from the bus. These officials also refuse to disclose the information they used to support the current allocation of available transportation funds.

Contacted elected officials refuse to demand that the board disclose its methods for allocating these funds.

We teach our children that they are responsible and accountable for their actions, and, if those actions (although made in good faith) create a bad circumstance, they must accept accountability and take corrective action or explain why they cannot do so to those adversely affected by their action. Don’t our children have the right to expect the same from those charged with both educating and representing them?

Let’s demand that the system we pay so much in taxes to support and those we elect to represent us are responsive to our children’s needs.

You can show your support for our children with an e-mail to ForOurChildren- @OptOnLine.net. Please include your name and address and the words “We demand that the Board of Education disclose its methods for allocating available school-bus transportation funds.”

Although the issue we are discussing is in Old Bridge, any locality is subject to the same potential problems, so please join us because if we do not unite and act today, our children will pay tomorrow.
