Becoming an American citizen to be discussed

A free program on how to become an American citizen is planned for 7 p.m. on May 8 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

Guest speaker Debbie Alter, director of immigrant and refugee services at Jewish Family and Vocational Services of Middlesex County, will discuss citizen eligibility requirements; where, when and how much it costs to file an application; a review of the citizenship application; how to prepare for the citizenship test; what happens at the interview; what to do if your application is lost or delayed; advocacy at the Newark Service Center; and how to file petitions for family members abroad.

Participants may bring a completed citizenship application for review. Applications also will be available at the workshop.
