In Central Jersey Pop Warner Midget action, the Raritan Bay Cougars defeated the Allentown Redbirds, 27-0. The victory clinched a division title for the Cougars. They won all five of their division games and finished the regular season with an overall record of 5-3. They will get a top seed in the upcoming CJPW division playoffs.
In this week’s action, Mike Larson threw touchdown passes to Eric Eyermen and Tyler Zangoglia, and Chris Vuolo and Larson added rushing touchdowns. Offensively, Chris Smith ran well, and linemen Matt Campion, Joe Geronimo, Matt Bonczack, Stuart Luciow, Robert Di Pisa, Bobby Benetti, Jared Eardley and Tim Ferrano blocked impressively. Defensively, Rob Bauman, Nick Guigno, Brett Campion, Alphonso Brown, Kyle O’Connor, Evan Grillo, Rob Conte, Dan Carney and Russ Seratelli played a big part in holding the Redbirds scoreless. The Cougars begin playoff action this weekend.
The Head Over Heels Level 4 USA Gymnastics team competed this weekend in the State Sectional Competition at Cherry Hill and performed extremely well. In the all-around competition, Amanda Caruso placed third, Carli Block placed seventh, Kelsey Dwyer placed 12th and Kaitlyn Knurek placed 17th. In the individual events, Amanda Caruso placed first on floor, third on beam, and 10th on vault. Carli Block placed second on floor and eighth on beam. In the vault competition, Kelsey Dwyer placed fourth and Kaitlyn Knurek placed sixth. Congratulations to Courtney Brennan, Olivia LaVine, and Layal Abdelaal for their outstanding performances on beam and vault.
Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham women’s soccer goalie Melissa Braun, of Sayreville, was named the Freedom Conference Women’s Soccer Goalie/Defender of the Week for the second time. Braun shut out the No. 16 Wilkes Colonels as FDU upset Wilkes on the road 2-0. It marked just the second loss of the year for the Colonels and it was their first conference loss of the year. Braun made three saves for the shutout, her sixth of the year.
The Old Bridge Soccer League U15 boys soccer team is looking for a few good players born between Aug. 1, 1990, and July 31, 1991, to add to its roster. The Sayreville Leprechaun Junior Pee Wees are the 2A South Blue Division champions. The team is 8-0, with wins over Iselin, North Brunswick, Morgan-Parlin, East Brunswick, Raritan Bay, Allentown and Hightstown.
The Leprechaun Junior Pee Wees beat the Hightstown Rams this past Sunday, 12-0. Bryan McMahon scored on a quarterback sneak and had an interception. Zavonne Perkinson had a 51-yard run for a touchdown. Also playing well were Nick Affinito, Austen Cangelosi, Anthony Taillefer, D.J. Miller, Eric Hartigan, Nick Taillefer, John Kelleher, Anthony Pestonit, Chancey Williams, Jason McMahon, Deion Miller and Frances Piatkowski,

The Leprechaun Junior Pee Wees are coached by Joe McMahon, Kevin Hullings, Carlton Lowe, Keith Scot and Scott Spiecker. Nicole Pestonit is the team mom. Playoffs will start next week.
The Sayre Wood South Rebels Junior Pee Wee Team of Old Bridge played their last regular season game this past Sunday, Oct. 16, defeating the (previously undefeated) West Windsor Pop Warner with a score of 24-0 and bringing the SWS Rebels to the close of a perfect regular season with eight wins and no losses, including five shutouts. Now they are division champs and move on to the first round of the playoffs, where they will most likely play the undefeated West Orange Pop Warner Junior Pee Wees.
