OLD BRIDGE — The Township Council unanimously approved two bond ordinances Monday night that will authorize improvement projects that include the replacement of the ice arena roof.
The bond ordinances enable the township to issue bond notes up to $3,335,000 for capital improvement projects slated to cost $3,741,000, and up to $250,000 in notes for the ice rink roof, which will cost $262,500.
At Monday night’s meeting, Old Bridge Township Library Trustee Linda Seiler told the council that bonding will most likely also be needed for work on the library roof. She said evidence of the need for work was apparent during a recent storm.
“There are other things that do need to be bonded for,” she said. “In the last rain storm, rain came pouring into the library, and drywall collapsed into the building.”
“Unfortunately, we have to replace [the ice arena roof], and the library roof is coming up,” Councilman Edward Testino said in response.
The bonding is necessary, he said, because the structure of the ice rink and its interior must be protected or more money could be required from the township to fix new problems.
“I just can’t see where we’d continue to allow the damage to occur to the [ice rink] equipment and the facilities,” Testino said.
