Middlesex County will host its first Child Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 3 at the Brunswick Square Mall, Route 18, East Brunswick.
The free event, which is designed to provide useful information and supplies to help parents, grandparents and guardians to protect their children, will feature fingerprinting of children ages 5 and older and information on Internet and bicycle safety, car seat inspections, injury prevention and drug, alcohol and gang awareness.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office will offer 500 free "Computer Cop" CD-ROMs. Valued at $40 each, the disks help parents monitor their children’s use of the Internet and include an interactive guide on how to talk to children about appropriate Internet use. DNA collection kits also will be available.
Tickles the Clown will be on hand for face painting. Tyler the Magician will create balloon sculptures, and the Easter Bunny will hand out treats. The event is cosponsored by Brunswick Square Mall.
Event participants will include the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office, the Association of Chiefs of Police, the Commission of Child Abuse and Missing Children, the East Brunswick Township Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Innocent Images Section, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital’s Injury Prevention Coalition, Drug Awareness and Resistance Education (DARE) and Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT).
