Public health officials recently announced that due to this year’s flu vaccine delay, health-care providers will continue to vaccinate against the flu until January 2001. Under normal circumstances, providers would administer flu shots from September-December. Problems with manufacturing the vaccine and delayed shipments have extended the time frame for immunizations.
Residents may call the Peer Review Organization of New Jersey hot line at (866) 269-4325 for updated information on where to get a flu shot in their county. Older adults are advised to get a flu shot every year.
Medicare will cover the cost of the flu shot.
