Individuals ages 10-17 are invited to take part in the upcoming Old Bridge Police Department (OBPD) Youth Police Academy.
Four sessions are available:
+ July 9-13 – grades 5 and 6;
+ July 16-20 – grades 7, 8 and 9;
+ July 30-Aug. 3 – grades 10, 11 and 12;
+ Aug. 13-17 – grades 5 and 6.
Classes will begin at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The program, which is designed to provide an awareness of the law enforcement field, will include classes in physical fitness training, crime-scene investigation, substance abuse prevention, and police canines. The course is not a boot camp for troubled youth. Instruction will be similar to police academy training.
All recruits will be required to adhere to a strict code of conduct and dress. Each recruit will receive a youth academy T-shirt and hat.
Upon completion of the course, graduates will be issued a certificate and an Old Bridge Police dog tag. The Old Bridge Fraternal Order of Police and Police Benevolent Association will sponsor a lunch on the day of graduation.
Fee is $60. Applications will be accepted on a first-come basis. Space is limited. Parental consent is required to participate in the program.
