Composer-lyricist Steve Karmen, award-winning advertising jingle writer and close friend of the late singer Bobby Darin, will appear at 8 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the East Brunswick Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

Known as "The King of the Jingle Jungle" by his advertising industry peers, Karmen created well-known ad jingles including "I Love New York" and "Weekends Were Made for Michelob."

Karmen, who met Darin in the 1950s at Bronx High School of Science, the Bronx, N.Y., where the two young men formed a rock ’n’ roll band, has written a memoir titled "Me and Bobby D." The book tells the story of the two friends’ volatile few weeks on the road during their first professional singing engagement.

The program is sponsored by the East Brunswick Friends of the Library.
