Howell Police Capt. Andrew Kudrick, who has been affiliated with the Howell Police Department since 1990, has been named the township’s new police chief.
Kudrick, who has been a resident of Howell for 38 years, will succeed Chief Ron Carter, who will retire on June 30 after 41 years of service to the Police Department, including 22 years as chief.
Kudrick will become police chief on July 1. Township Manager Jeff Mayfield made the announcement this week.
Kudrick came to the Police Department in 1990 as a member of the Police Explorers post. The organization is a program for young adults who have an interest in law enforcement.
Kudrick was hired in 1993 as a full-time 911 telecommunications operator.
In 1995, he was hired as a patrolman. While serving as a patrolman, Kudrick became a field training officer and taught basic skills to new officers. From 1994 to 2002, Kudrick served as the adviser to the Police Explorers.
Kudrick served as a member of the Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit and became a K-9 handler, according to Mayfield.
In 2002, Kudrick was promoted to sergeant and served as a first line supervisor in the Uniformed Patrol Division.
He continued to serve on the Emergency Services Unit and assisted with the development of the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (MOCERT). Kudrick remained in a leadership position with MOCERT until 2012.
As a patrolman and sergeant, Kudrick was a member of the Honor Guard from 2000-10. He has dedicated time to being a New Jersey Certified Police Instructor through the Police Training Commission since 2002, according to Mayfield.
According to Mayfield, Kudrick has trained hundreds of officers and continues to provide training to new officers in the township’s police force and at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold Township.
Kudrick was promoted to lieutenant in 2005 and took on the positions of training unit supervisor and patrol division commander until 2012. In October 2012, Kudrick was promoted to captain. He serves in the Police Department’s administrative, operations and service divisions.
Kudrick holds a master’s degree in public administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and he graduated from the West Point Command and Leadership Program in 2007, where he gained certification as a certified public manager, according to Mayfield.
Kudrick has been a member of Howell’s Adelphia Fire Company since 1986. He and his wife, Barbara, are the parents of a teenage son.
“Howell Township, its administration, and governing body look forward to Capt. Kudrick’s service as chief of police of Howell. There is no doubt he will continue to serve and protect the residents of Howell and lead the Police Department in a professional manner in keeping with the traditions and values it was founded upon,” said Mayfield, who served for many years in the Police Department.
