Gerald A. Cappiello
Mr. Cappiello, 81, of West Orange, died March 11, 2007, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown. He was born in Newark and was a graduate of Seton Hall University, South Orange. Prior to retiring in 1986, he owned and operated Atlantic Alloy, Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II. Mr. Cappiello was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette, in 1969; three brothers, Anthony, Frank and Daniel Cappiello; and four sisters, Mary Cappiello, Margaret Yannazzio, Sister Marie Carmel Cappiello and Anne Yannazzio. Surviving are a son, Dennis Cappiello of Manahawkin; a daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Patrick Ammiano of Jackson; a brother, Dr. William Cappiello of Florida; a sister, Theresa Bevalacaqua of Union; and five grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. The Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Ann Jean Murphy
Mrs. Murphy, 74, of Jackson, died March 12, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Jersey City and had lived in Hoboken and Freehold Township before moving to Jackson 22 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1995, she was a van driver for the Freehold Regional High School District. She was also a member of the Jackson Senior Center, where she especially enjoyed doing ceramics. Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by a son, Robert, in 1992, as well as a sister, Joan. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Joseph; two sons, Joseph Murphy of Freehold Township and Michael Murphy of Ontario, Canada; a daughter, Elizabeth Trebotica of Freehold Township; three brothers, Nicholas of Bloomfield, Robert of Connecticut and Gerard of New Jersey; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by entombment at Forest Green Memorial Park, Marlboro.
John J. Abramski
Mr. Abramski, 62, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died March 13, 2007, at home. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he was employed as a chemical operator with Hercules Inc., Parlin, where he worked for 21 years. Surviving are his wife, Ceil Guadagno Abramski; and two sons, John Abramski, and his wife, Amy, of Jackson and Robert Abramski of Parlin. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Entombment was in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Central New Jersey Hospice.
Karl Leitgeb
Mr. Leitgeb, 68, of Howell, died March 13, 2007, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. He was born in Adendorf, Hungary, and had lived in Long Branch before moving to Howell six years ago. Prior to retiring in 1998, he was a mason and a finisher for Louis & John Inc., a drywall company in Long Branch. Most recently, he was a carpenter for Strevens Building Corp., Freehold. Mr. Leitgeb was predeceased in 1995 by his wife, Joan, and in 1987 by a daughter, Patti. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Heather and John Strevens of Howell, Carolyn and Michael Brennan of Zionsville, Ind., Heidi and Tim Fries of Flemington, and Terry Leitgeb of Redondo Beach, Calif., and her fiancé, Jon Raynack; a sister, Suze Lauber of Germany; a sister-in-law, Margaret Baistow of Howell; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Interment was private. Doris Mary Battaglia
Mrs. Battaglia, 81, of Jackson, died March 14, 2007, at home. born in New York City, she resided in Aberdeen 30 years, prior to relocating to Jackson 2 1/2 years ago. She was a retired secretary at American Food Machinery Company, New York City. Prior to that, she was a substitute teacher and lunch mother at St. Mary’s church and School, Queens, N.Y. She was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She was a member of the church’s Saints and Sinners Club. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Christine Battaglia of Freehold Township; and two grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Benedict’s Church. Entombment was at Holmdel Cemetery. Arrangements were by Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
Jane H. Hendrickson Bartlett
Mrs. Bartlett, 87, of Matawan, died March 16, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she resided in Lakewood for 25 years, and Red Bank, prior to relocating to Matawan. She was a salesperson at Village Furniture, Lakewood, for 10 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, she was employed at Wynkoop Antiques & Interiors, Red Bank. A former outboard racing champion during the 1940s and 1950s, she was a member of the Antique Power Boat Association, and Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Bartlett of Midlothian, Va., and Susan Trautvetter of Aberdeen; and three grandchildren. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Alfred Joseph Fiore
Mr. Fiore, 55, of Millville, died March 19, 2007, at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center, Vineland. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in the Belford section of Middletown before moving to Millville in 1986. Mr. Fiore was predeceased by his parents, Frieda and Joseph Fiore. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Alison Fiore; a son, Ryan Fiore of Galloway Township; a daughter, Jennifer Fiore of South Plainfield; two brothers, Dominick Fiore of Jackson and Patsy Fiore of Neptune; and many nieces and nephews. Interment took place at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Judith Yanchyshyn Gatta
Mrs. Gatta, 62, of East Brunswick, died March 17, 2007, at home. Her mother, Anne Yanchyshyn, died in 2006. Surviving are her husband, George Gatta; a son, George W. Gatta of South Amboy; a daughter, Victoria Ann Campagna of Howell; and a brother, William Yanchyshyn of Indian Mound, Tenn. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Allen J. Wolf
Mr. Wolf, 47, of Howell, died March 21, 2007, at home. Born in Red Bank, he grew up in Hazlet and had lived in Union before moving to Howell 17 years ago. Prior to becoming disabled in February, he was the store manager at Lowe’s home improvement center, Eatontown, for the past six years He was a communicant of The Church of St. Veronica, Howell. Mr. Wolf was predeceased in 1996 by his mother, Claire Wolf. He is survived by his wife, Susan Gates Wolf; a son, Matthew Wolf, at home; his father and stepmother, William and Rita Wolf of Redding, Calif.; three brothers, Michael Wolf of Kansas, Steven Wolf of Keyport and David Wolf of Bridgewater; and a sister, Kathryn Courtney of Hazlet. James Anthony Dellechiaie
Mr. Dellechiaie, 81, of Howell, died March 22, 2007, at home. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he had resided there before moving to Howell 20 years ago. Prior to retiring, he was a dispatcher for the New York City Transit Authority. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4374, Freehold. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Mr. Dellechiaie was predeceased by his wife, Frances, in 1996. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Stout of Howell; two sisters, Connie Arvanitis and Angie Rasmussen, both of Manchester; and four grandchildren, Cody, Randy, Michelle and Danielle. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.
Charles Straniero Sr.
Mr. Straniero, 79, of Matawan, died March 19, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born in Hazlet. He was a maintenance worker at Hazlet School District. Prior to that, he was employed at National Lead for 30 years, and did home repairs along with his son. He served with both the U.S. Army and Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by two brothers, Nick and John Straniero. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Buddy Vergari of Matawan, and Mary and Tom Jones of Eatontown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chuck and Charlene Straniero Jr. of Jackson, and Eddie Straniero of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Patsy S. Guadagno
Mr. Guadagno, 87, of Freehold, died March 24, 2007, at New York University Medical Center, New York City. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived there for most of his life before moving to Freehold seven years ago. Prior to retiring, Mr. Guadagno was a motor vehicle operator for Local Union No. 983, New York City. He had also previously worked as a movie theater manager in Brooklyn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mr. Guadagno was predeceased by his wife, Victoria, in 1993. Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Carl Guadagno of Brooklyn, Nicholas and Linda Guadagno of Marlboro, and Pat and Patricia Guadagno of Howell; a brother, Anthony Guadagno of Lakewood; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Sarah J. Hankins
Mrs. Hankins, 92, of The Orchards at Bartley, Jackson, died March 23, 2007, at home. Born and raised in the Adelphia section of Howell, she had lived in Freehold for 60 years before moving to Jackson in 2002. She was a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. She worked for F.W. Woolworth, Freehold, in the 1930s. While a homemaker during the ’40s and ’50s, Mrs. Hankins was also a foster mom for the Monmouth County Organization for Social Service (MCOSS). She was employed by Brit’s, Freehold, from the 1960s to the ’70s, which is when she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Freehold for more than 60 years and taught Sunday school as well. She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Cecil B. Hankins, and in 1964 by a brother, Harold I. Johnson. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Byron Hankins and Rosemarie Hankins of Manchester Township, and Roger A. Hankins of Freehold; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Adelphia Cemetery, Adelphia.
Sarellen Raskin
Mrs. Raskin, 74, of Princeton, formerly of Old Bridge, died March 16, 2007, in Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. Surviving are her husband, Jack C. Raskin; four sons, Thomas Raskin of North Brunswick, John Raskin of Pennington, Peter Raskin of Southern Shores, N.C., and James Raskin of Ellicott City, Md.; a brother, William Stivers of the New Egypt section of Plumsted; a sister, Patricia Siek of Weston, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
