New Egypt woman faces drug charges after vehicle stop

PLUMSTED – A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a New Egypt woman after an investigation led to the discovery of nearly 90 bags of substances believed to be heroin and methamphetamine in her vehicle.

Police said the arrest of Valerie Sheridan, 26, took place during a motor vehicle stop on a silver Ford Taurus on Route 537 in the Cream Ridge section of Plumsted just before 5 p.m. Aug. 7.

During the motor vehicle stop, Detective A.J. Mantz called for assistance from a K-9 unit to check the vehicle for any narcotics following a brief investigation, according to police.

K-9 units from the Plumsted Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department provided a positive indication that narcotics were in the vehicle, according to police.

A search warrant was obtained and executed on the vehicle and the officers found 88 wax folds of a substance believed to be heroin and a quantity of methamphetamine.

Sheridan was taken into custody and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, after failing to post bail.
