Work should begin this fall on the reconstruction of Hope Chapel Road from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to Route 527 in Manchester and Jackson townships, according to a press release from the Ocean County Board of Freeholders.
The project will include the reconstruction and overlay of approximately 2.5 miles of Route 547 (Hope Chapel Road).
“The pavement along this stretch of road is not in the best condition at spots,” said Freeholder John P. Kelly, liaison to the Ocean County Department of Engineering.
Areas with the worst deterioration will be milled and repaved down to 4.5 inches. The remaining areas will receive the more traditional
2-inch removal and replacement of asphalt, according to the press release.
Kelly said the work will also include several safety improvements.
“A sharp unbanked curve that currently has a reduced speed advisory will be reworked and banked to increase driver safety,” said Kelly. “We will also be adding new centerline raised pavement reflectors for increased nighttime visibility.”
Centerline rumble strips will also be added to sections of the road away from residential areas, Kelly said.
The freeholders are expected to seek bids for the project early this summer. Construction is scheduled for the fall of 2015.
