JACKSON — The Jackson Pathfinders and the Forest Resource Education Center (FREC) will host the free National Trails Day event, “Forests, Streams and Bogs: Exploring Jackson Trails,” on June 6.
Three guided hikes will be offered on some of the best trails in Jackson, according to a press release. The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Forest Resource Education Center, 495 Don Connor Blvd., with a naturalist led walk on the Forest Discovery Trail.
The walk will be followed by two Jackson Pathfinders-led hikes, one at the Silver Stream/Steve Kitay trails in the Metedeconk Preserve, 255 Frank Applegate Road, and the other on the Purple Heart trail in Bunker Hill Bogs, 805 East Veterans Highway.
Both of these hikes, which are within close driving distance of the FREC, will start at 11:15 a.m. from the trail head parking lots.
Directions will be provided after the Forest Discovery Trail walk and are also available on the Jackson Pathfinders website, www.jacksonpathfinders.org.
National Trails Day is the country’s largest celebration of trails. The Pathfinders is a volunteer trail preservation group sponsored by Jackson to establish and maintain trails for hiking and other recreational uses.
The Forest Resource Education Center, operated by New Jersey State Forestry Services, is committed to providing exceptional conservation education programs that promote the benefits of trees and forest stewardship to all age groups at no cost, according to the press release.
