Foundation planning golf outing in June

JACKSON — Four years after the passing of James Volpe, the foundation that bears his name will return to the golf links to celebrate his life and raise money for a number of causes.

Volpe was a senior and a member of the varsity baseball team at Jackson Memorial High School when he was killed in a motor vehicle accident on May 13, 2011. He had been planning to attend Kean University.

The James Volpe Foundation, a nonprofit organization that was founded shortly after the teenager’s death, will sponsor and host its fourth annual golf classic on June 15 at the Pine Barrens Golf Club, Jackson.

Money raised at the event will help local students, families and organizations overcome financial hardships, and assist local children and grieving families.

Up to 120 golfers may participate in the outing. The $200 entry fee includes a gift bag, access to the private golf club’s facilities, lunch and dinner. Corporate sponsorships are available, ranging from $250 to $1,500.

Individuals who do not want to golf may make a $40 donation and attend a buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. During the dinner, items such as sports memorabilia and hotel accommodations in Atlantic City will be auctioned off.

According to the foundation, events such as the annual golf outing allow the organization to assist people who are dealing with difficult situations.
