September will be a month filled with family fun, music and wine with two events scheduled at the Cream Ridge Winery, 145 Route 539, Cream Ridge.
The winery is kicking things off with its 23rd annual Bluegrass and Pig Roast Harvest Festival Weekend on Sept. 13-14 from noon to 5 p.m.
Cream Ridge Winery employee Lindsey Fenton said admission to the event is $10 and includes parking, music, wine tasting and hay rides. Guests should bring lawn chairs.
At noon and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 13, Louie Setzer and the Appalachian Mountain Boys will perform. Setzer was the primary founder of the Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass Association in 1973, according to the group’s website.
Traditional country and bluegrass music performers Home Cookin’ will perform at 12:50 and 3:20 p.m. Sept. 13. The Magnolia Street String Band from central New Jersey will perform at 1:40 and 4:10 p.m. Sept. 13.
Sept. 14 also has several bluegrass musicians scheduled to perform, with the bluegrass band Whippoorwill slated to take the stage at noon and 2:30 p.m., followed by Home Cookin’ at 12:50 and 3:20 p.m. The King Brothers will play at 1:40 and 4:10 p.m. The group performs traditional Irish and folk music, according to its website.
There will be a pig roast both days. The pig roast and other food specials will be an additional cost.
On Sept. 27, the winery will host the second annual “Finish Wine” Bicycle Rally. The rally challenges bicyclists to see how far they can ride and reach the finish line at the Cream Ridge Winery, according to Fenton. “Everyone who participates can choose to set their own route or join a guided route organized by Bruno Bicycles in Allentown, with our winery being the finish line, and each participant will receive a personalized bottle of our Cream Ridge Finish Line wine,” Fenton said.
Participants under the age of 21 will receive a special “Finish Wine” water bottle courtesy of Bruno’s Bicycles.
There are several rides sponsored by Bruno’s Bicycles that will start at the winery — a 50-mile ride starting at 10 a.m., a 32-mile ride starting at 11 a.m., and a 3.5- mile family fun ride at noon, according to the winery’s website.
The finish line will be open from 1-5 p.m. When participants reach the finish line, there will be live musical entertainment. Lunch will be provided from 1-3 p.m.
Early registration for the bicycle rally is available until 5 p.m. Sept. 15 for $25.
The registration fee will increase to $40 from 5 p.m. Sept. 15 until the day of the rally.
