A “paddle out” event to honor the memory of local surfer Ryan Victor Cappuzzo will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 15 at Island Beach State Park, Ocean County, in section A-2. Cappuzzo, pictured here surfing in Costa Rica, died suddenly on Sept. 9. He was an avid surfer, musician and photographer. Plans call for a scholarship in his name to be started at Towson University in Maryland. Cappuzzo regularly surfed at Island Beach, Lavallette, Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant. His father, Ross V. Cappuzzo, president of Genesis Eyewear/Millennium Eyecare, Freehold, said the “paddle out” will be a celebration of his son’s life. The “bad weather” date is Oct. 16, same time.
