Writer commends president’s decision to compromise

President Barack Obama’s decision to compromise with the Republicans on taxes was both wise and necessary. The compromise will ensure that middleclass Americans will not see a rise in their income tax bill during difficult economic times.

Additionally, the compromise will provide extended unemployment insurance benefits for millions of Americans. This is not only morally justified, it will provide needed economic stimulus, as will the payroll tax deduction.

Some members of the Democratic Party who represent safe districts attack the president for not fighting harder. These Democrats fail to realize that President Obama represents all of us.

As the president eloquently stated, for the millions who would have seen their taxes rise or their unemployment benefits end, this is not some ideological game.

The president was right to make the decision that he did, and to point out Republican obstructionism and the need to do better.
