PLUMSTED — The members of the Township Committee brewed up liquor license renewals during their June 4 meeting. Six licenses for local businesses and clubs were extended through a unanimous vote.
According to the resolution memorializing six liquor license extensions, the Plumsted Township Police Department reported that no alcohol-related incidents occurred at any of the locations that might indicate further use of a liquor license would negatively affect residents.
Kyki Inc. (Plumsted Grill), Route 539, and Wilcove Holdings, LLC (Kovacs Corner Bar & Grill), Evergreen Road, received a plenary retail consumption license extension.
A plenary retail consumption license allows a licensee to provide an area for customers to drink alcoholic beverages, hold tasting events and obtain up to two restricted brewery licenses.
Downtown NE, LLC, was slated to receive a plenary retail consumption license extension, but officials said that action was delayed at the state level pending an ongoing discussion regarding pocket licenses.
Pocket licenses are licenses held by owners who have yet to use them.
JSK Wines & Liquors, LLC (Plumsted Wines & Liquors), Route 539, received a plenary retail distribution license.
A plenary distribution license allows for the sale of liquor and tasting events.
According to state legislation, municipal official have significant control over how liquor licenses are disseminated, including limiting the number of retail licenses, restricting the business hours of liquor retail stores, prohibiting liquor sales on Sunday and other limitations.
The number of retail liquor licenses that are available to municipalities is based on population figures.
Retail sale and consumption licenses are generally provided at a ratio of one license for every 3,000 residents, while distribution licenses are generally provided at a ratio of one license for every 7,500 residents.
Club licenses for the New Egypt Elks No. 2457 and the McKaig-Test-Mullen American Legion Post No. 455 were also extended by the committee.
Club licenses are issued to nonprofit organizations that want to sell liquor and other alcoholic beverages to club members and their guests.
A club is not allowed to sell packaged alcoholic goods or to sell alcohol to individuals renting their facilities.
The number of club licenses available in a municipality is not restricted by state law.
In other news, an increase in the amount of money the township will pay residents whose mailboxes are accidentally knocked down by contracted snow removal companies has increased.
In the future, residents seeking restitution from the township for a damaged mailbox will receive up to $30 to replace the post and up to $25 for the mailbox.
Township officials said the funds would be enough to provide residents with a sufficient mailbox. Replacements for more expensive decorative mailboxes would not be funded by the township.
