PLUMSTED – When the bells of the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School rang for the final time in the 2011-12 school year, 500 children were not the only ones to say goodbye.

Principal Toni Ferry, who is getting married and moving to northern New Jersey, also bid farewell. She will become the principal of the Lafayette Elementary School in the Wayne Township School District.

“I have absolutely loved my time here in New Egypt. Everyone is extremely invested in positive education and the well-being of the children,” Ferry said. “I have had the opportunity to forge wonderful relationships. This is a community that has wonderful kids, wonderful parents and wonderful teachers.”

Ferry came to the Plumsted Township School District as the vice principal of New Egypt High School and served in that position for three years.

She was then named principal of the New Egypt Primary School and served in that building for five years.

Ferry was named principal of the Woehr school at the beginning of the 2011-12 school year.

Having worked in three of the district’s four schools, Ferry said she feels a strong bond with many of New Egypt’s students.

“I have had the honor of watching some of these kids grow,” she said. “I will miss them all terribly.”

Before becoming an administrator in New Egypt, Ferry was a teacher at Old Bridge High School.

Superintendent of Schools Karen Jones said district administrators have begun reviewing applications for a new principal.

“We are looking for somebody that is a results-driven leader who can use data efficiently to diagnose where our students are at and where they need to go,” Jones said.

Speaking about Ferry, Jones said, “She has done an exceptional job working in that (Woehr) school and she will definitely be missed.”
