Local artists to teach at arts, music day camp

Several area artists will join forces to teach a local arts and music camp for the Christian Center for the Arts.

Meg McMennamin, of Crosswicks, a professional dancer and teacher for Crosswicks Dance, will teach dance and choreography. Lyndsey Potosky, an Allentown-area actress and Rider University student, will be part of the drama teaching team. Donna Pirone, owner and operator of The Millstream Art Gallery in Allentown, will focus on art and set design. Pat Weitz, director of the Community Christian Choir, will hold vocal classes and direct the camp.

The instructors will collaborate with others to offer a Christian Arts and Music Program (CAMP) the weeks of Aug. 13 and Aug. 20. Sponsored by the Community Christian Choir, an ecumenical group of Christian singers, CAMP will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square, 3550 Nottingham Way, in Hamilton Township. The day camp will culminate with performances of “Kingdom Quest,” a musical about God told through the setting of a video game.

“Children face a reality that goes beyond the imaginary, electronic challenges they find in video games,” Weitz said. “They face spiritual encounters that call for a renewed sense of mission, a re-invigorated ‘call to arms.’ More than ever, they need the armor of God.”

The CAMP has openings for students entering the fourth through eighth grades who have an interest in singing, acting and performing. Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 and at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24.
