$10,000 grant will benefit seniors

For the second consecutive year, Plumsted’s Senior Outreach Services (SOS) organization will receive a $10,000 grant from Ocean County’s Office of Senior Services.

The organization is composed of volunteers, appointed by the Township Committee, from all age groups to provide assistance to senior citizens by connecting people with programs that are available from every level of government — federal, state, county and local.

The organization is located in the township municipal building’s lower level in the senior citizen meeting room, which was constructed with an elevator with funding from the federal government’s Community Development Block Grant.

In addition to the many informational, educational and entertainment services provided by SOS, it also assists many of the local seniors or disabled residents with car rides for grocery shopping and doctor appointments.

SOS needs and welcomes volunteers to help meet the needs of others. For more information, call 609-758-2241, ext. 111.
