House damaged in evening fire

JACKSON — Firefighters responded to a blaze at a single-family residence at 832 East Veterans Highway on Nov. 18. Officials said the fire began at about 9:15 p.m.

The initial responders were from the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Company and the Jackson Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.

Cassville Fire Company No. 1 also responded to the scene, according to Chief Scott Rauch of the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Company.

Other fire companies were alerted and put on standby. The Jackson Mills Volunteer Fire Company was available to cover the township, while the fire company from Navy Lakehurst served as a Rapid Intervention Team.

A ladder truck was brought in from Pleasant Plains and an engine came from Lakewood to join the Jackson Mills Volunteer Fire Company in covering the area normally covered by the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Company.

Also responding at the scene were Jackson emergency medical services personnel and the Jackson Police Department.

One firefighter was injured during the incident. The firefighter was transported to Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, for treatment and released later that evening.

Rauch described the building as a twostory dwelling that was being rented.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
