Band showcase set for Oct. 2

JACKSON — The Showcase of Champions band competition will be held at Jack Munley Field at Jackson Memorial High School, Don Connor Boulevard, from 5:30- 10 p.m. Oct. 2.

The event is sponsored by the Jackson Memorial High School Band Parents Association in conjunction with the high school.

The Showcase of Champions will feature 17 high school marching bands, including the Jackson Memorial Jaguar Band and the Jackson Liberty High School Lion Band. Bands from Brick Memorial, Toms River East, Point Pleasant Borough and Middletown North high schools are also expected to take part in the event.

There will be a special performance by the Monmouth University Pep Band.

“The Showcase of Champions is the largest marching band event in Ocean and Monmouth counties, and this year is going to be extra special with the performance of the Monmouth University Pep Band,” said Jackson Jaguar band director Bud Mc- Cormick.

“The Jackson Memorial and Jackson Liberty bands will also be in attendance, and I am pretty positive that when you see them, you are going to remember them for a long time. Both bands are excellent. So please come out and support your local high school marching bands. This event will run rain or shine, indoors or outdoors,” he said.

Food, a basket auction and a raffle will be available at the Showcase of Champions. Admission to the competition will be $8 general admission and $5 for students and seniors.
