Walter D. Nychay

Mr. Nychay, 43, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died July 30 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Long Branch, he resided in Port Monmouth most of his life. Mr. Nychay was a draftsman at Blasland, Bouck & Lee Inc., Cranbury. He was predeceased by his father, Michael Nychay. He is survived by his mother, Rita Nychay of Port Monmouth; a brother, Michael Nychay of Howell; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Veronica Evernham of the Leonardo section of Middletown, and Debra and Michael McIntyer of Duluth, Minn.; and two daughters, Alexandria and Casandra Nychay. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.

Paul F. Chessare

Mr. Chessare, 87, of Freehold, died July 18 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in New York City, he had resided in Brazil, Switzerland and Belgium before moving to Freehold in 1977. Prior to retiring, he was employed by the Cameron Machine Co., Dover, as a sales manager, and was also the owner of a printing business. A veteran of World War II, he was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he served as a navigator in the 848th Bomb Squadron in the European theater of operations. In 1944, he flew 30 combat missions over Europe and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. He received an Air Medal with four oak-leaf clusters; a European-African-Middle Eastern (EAME) Theater ribbon with four Bronze Stars; and an American Defense Medal. Mr. Chessare was predeceased by his wife, Thelma, in 2005. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Margery Chessare of Greenfield, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Alan Bachrach of France, and Laura and Robert Pizanie of Howell; a brother, George Chessare of Indiana; and two grandchildren, Lisa and Daniel. A chapel service was held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown, where interment followed. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

James R. Trotta

Mr. Trotta, 67, of Freehold Township, died July 20 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Newark, he had lived in Freehold for the past 60 years. Prior to retiring, he was a security guard for Nestle Co., Freehold. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. A fan of the New York Yankees, he also enjoyed dinners at Frankie Fed’s, Freehold, and weekends in Atlantic City. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Springsteen Trotta; a son, Richard J. Trotta of Brick; three daughters, April E. Moore of Brick, Sharon A. Trotta-Konopelski of Freehold and Joanne L. Alt of the Morganville section of Marlboro; a brother, Jack Trotta of Jackson; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by entombment at St. Rose of Lima Mausoleum, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Santa Marie Velardi Kolendriski

Mrs. Kolendriski, 67, of Hazlet, died July 27 at home. Born in Jersey City, she resided there before moving to Hazlet 43 years ago. Mrs. Kolendriski was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her mother, Marguerita Corio; and two brothers, Salvatore Velardi and Vincenzio “Junior” Velardi. Mrs. Kolendriski is survived by her husband, John Kolendriski; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Jane Kolendriski of Hazlet; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathleen and Peter Graczyk of Jackson, and Marguerita and Joseph Holmes of Hazlet; her father, Vincenzio Velardi of Hazlet; a brother, Louis Velardi of Lyndhurst; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

William E. Baldwin

Mr. Baldwin, 82, of Lakewood, died Aug. 4 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born in New Brunswick, he had resided in Milltown before moving to Lakewood in 2004. Prior to retiring in 1988, he was an assistant criminal assignment clerk in the Middlesex County Criminal Assignment Office, New Brunswick, for more than 35 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Milltown. He was also a member of Musicians’ Local No. 102, New Brunswick, and the N.J. State Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA). Mr. Baldwin was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Santisi Baldwin, in 1965. Surviving are four sons, Charles Baldwin of Brooklyn, N.Y., William J. Baldwin of Spencer, N.Y., Brian Baldwin of Manchester and David Baldwin of Edison; and five children. Funeral services were held at the Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick, followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment took place at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
