Greater Media Inc., Boston, announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Smyth has been selected as the 2005 Radio Wayne Awards’ Broadcaster of the Year.
The presentation was made Feb. 12 in conjunction with the 2005 Radio Advertising Bureau National Convention in Atlanta.
The annual awards were founded by Radio Ink Magazine in 1992 in an effort to recognize those outstanding salespeople, managers and broadcasters who personify the best in radio. The awards were named in honor of the late “Radio” Wayne Cornils, who served as the executive vice president of the Radio Advertising Bureau, as well as the senior VP/radio at the National Association of Broadcasters. Cornils spent his entire career promoting the radio industry’s inherent values to broadcasters, advertisers and listeners.
“We are very proud of Peter’s outstanding accomplishments. His passion, dedication and vision have made Greater Media the outstanding organization it is today,” said John Bordes, chairman of the board of Greater Media, Inc.
Smyth joined Greater Media, Inc. in 1986 as general manager of WMJX-FM in Boston and was appointed vice president/general manager the following year. He was subsequently promoted to the positions of senior vice president/regional general manager, group vice president of radio and chief operating officer.
In October 2000, Smyth was appointed to the position of president and chief operating officer. In March 2002, he was named as Greater Media, Inc.’s president and chief executive officer.
“I would like to thank Radio Ink Magazine, the outstanding men and women of Greater Media, Inc. and the Bordes family for allowing me the opportunity to receive this great honor,” Smyth said.
