PLUMSTED — Bonjour! If you have always wanted to say more than “hello” in French, then New Egypt Community Education has the class for you. Starting on Nov. 2, Christine Eggert, an established community education instructor, will be offering “French for Beginners” — a six-week course to be held at the New Egypt Middle School, Evergreen Road.
If learning computer languages is more your forte, then Eggert is also teaching classes in Word, Excel and Publisher 2000. She is a Microsoft Certified Master Instructor who holds a certification as a Microsoft Office User Specialist.
What if you’re new to surfing the Internet? Then the community education program also has classes in “Creating Your Own Web Site” and “Navigating the World Wide Web.” The latter course — a one-night seminar — has been moved to a new date and time: Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
If creativity is your passion, consider signing up for “Basic Bead Stringing,” a one-night seminar on Nov. 9, or making a “Sterling Silver Beaded ‘Name’ Bracelet” on Nov. 10.
Maybe you’re not the type to sit still and want to keep moving. Then consider these choices: Pilates — a gentle exercise for all that improves muscle tone, balance and strength — rescheduled to Tuesdays and Fridays, beginning Nov. 9; “Total Body Works and Abdominals” — a resistance training class to sculpt muscles — beginning on Nov. 29; “Yogalates” — a mix of yoga, Pilates and ballet — starting Nov. 1; and “Cardio-Kickboxing” — designed for beginners to advanced — starting on Nov. 9.
New Egypt Community Education hosts classes for those still in school as well. Classes include “Snowman Ornaments” on Nov. 22 (grades 2-5), “Holiday Arts and Crafts” (grades K-3) on Dec. 7, “Create a Memory Wire Name Bracelet” (grades 3-6) on Oct. 20, a “Toggle Bracelet (grades 3-6), “Beaded Safety Pin” (grades 3-6) on Nov. 3 or “Pony Beads” (grades 3-6) on Nov. 17.
Trips such as the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in New York City and Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania are also offered.
Classes are open to everyone, not just Plumsted residents. Early sign-up is recommended.
