JACKSON — "How the West Was Fun" is the theme chosen for this year’s Jackson Day celebration to be held Sept. 18 with a rain date of Sept. 19.
Recreation director and Jackson Day chairwoman Anne Alberta announced that there will be two concession meetings.
The first meeting for Jackson-based nonprofit organizations will be held May 25 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building. The organizations, which must have Jackson as their primary addresses, will be limited to one item at this meeting free of charge.
In addition to the traditional fare that will be selected by vendors, the recreation department has placed children’s rides as open for bid. Rides will be selected and paid for and the vendor receiving the bid will man the rides and receive the proceeds.
The second meeting will be held July 13, same time and location. At this meeting Jackson-based nonprofit organizations may select as many items as they wish, followed by other nonprofit organizations and commercial vendors.
A complete Jackson Day application package has been mailed to all who participated last year. Packages are available at the Recreation Department in the Public Works Building or by calling (732) 928-1260.
Alberta said, "We are working hard to plan an action-packed day. Planned so far is a rodeo, chili contest, line-dancing lessons prior to classic country and country rock live music, a petting zoo, a buckboard ride and, of course, a spectacular fireworks display. There will be more details about these events and others to be added."
