BlueClaws
boost youth
sports leagues
LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood BlueClaws are taking another step in promoting the game of baseball in Ocean and Monmouth counties. The team, now in its fourth year, promises to purchase field signs for each youth sports league that participates in the BlueClaws’ new fund-raising program.
"It’s local community support that has made the BlueClaws successful over the last three years," said General Manager Geoff Brown. "This is a way to say thank you and help out local youth sports programs throughout the area."
According to a press release, the opportunity will be extended to all leagues that participate in a 250-person fund-raiser for an April or May BlueClaws game Monday through Thursday. The league will purchase the 250 tickets at $6 each and sell them for the standard adult price of $9, raising $750.
In addition, the BlueClaws will then spend an additional $250 toward a billboard at the local little league’s park. In essence, any youth sports league fund-raiser of at least 250 people will raise at least $1,000 for that league.
Those leagues that sell 500 or more tickets for a given date will receive an on-field parade before that game, while those that sell 1,000 or more tickets will receive an on-field parade and Buster or a BlueClaws player will appear at their facility free of charge. Such a fund-raiser also would raise more than $3,000 for their league.
Interested leagues should call (732) 901-7000, ext. 173 and ask for Group Sales Manager Zak Boenig, who organized the program.
The BlueClaws will open the 2004 season on April 8 at Kannapolis, with the home opener on April 12. Full season ticket and partial ticket plans are on sale. Call (732) 901-7000 Option 2 to order.
