HOWELL — The Township Council has undertaken a measure to make it easier for residents to satisfy some pool installation requirements.

A resolution is being developed that would amend the ordinance governing pool permits to allow for an administrative panel comprised of various township office holders to handle decisions on issues of boundary encroachment for homeowners whose properties are adjacent to woods.

Explaining the reason for the amendment, Township Manager Bruce Davis said it would allow for a review panel to be comprised of the township engineer, land use officer and construction code official that would review and, if necessary, authorize any allowable setback relief.

Davis said the situation periodically presents itself when a swimming pool installation is completed and happens to violate the required setback from the property line.

Davis said handling these issues administratively rather than having a resident appear before the council would be a "relief to the people affected."

In other business, a resolution was directed at leaf and branch pickup.

At the recommendation of the public works director, a resolution is being drawn up that would require residents to wait until five days prior to any scheduled pickup before putting the brush in the street.

Davis said this was necessary because in the past, debris would pile up in the streets from residents placing their brush out weeks before the scheduled pickup.
