Judaic study
program to
be offered
LAKEWOOD — Ocean County seniors are invited to participate in Beth Medrash Govoha’s second annual two-day Judaic study program.
The ToraHostel learning and discovery program will take place on Aug. 19-20 at the Israel Henry Beren Hall at Beth Medrash Govoha, 617 Sixth St.
The two-day curriculum features hands-on workshops, classes and special guest presentations led by Judaic scholars and craftsmen.
Participants can choose courses that range from the study of prayer to the Jewish concept of free will, the fundamentals of mysticism, the lifestyle and values of Chasidism, Jewish artistry, history, philosophy, ethics and more.
"The ToraHostel is a wonderful way for people to delve more deeply into their Jewish heritage," said Rabbi Joshua Hill, director of senior programs and community relations at Beth Medrash Govoha Yeshiva college.
"It is a kind of an adult summer retreat program that doesn’t require an overnight stay, and it was so successful last year that we already have twice as many registrants for this year and have decided to make it an annual event," he continued. "In addition to taking courses, participants will have the chance to meet and socialize with the teachers, guest speakers and area dignitaries in a relaxed atmosphere."
No prior education or background in Judaic studies is required. Course offerings are divided into two (sometimes three or four) simultaneous tracks, running from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with breakfast, lunch and snacks included.
On the second day, there will be an Appreciation Dinner, where Mr. And Mrs. Len Bergman and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lichtblau of The Four Seasons in Lakewood will be recognized for their work on behalf of Beth Medrash Govoha’s senior study programs.
Registration is $99 per person or $159 per couple, including the full two-day program and all meals. Free parking is available. For more information, call (732) 901-0604, ext. 131.
