FREDRICK J. EMM, 77, of Bradley Beach died Jan. 30 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he lived in the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen prior to moving to Bradley Beach four years ago. He worked in management for the Container Corp. of America, Matawan; and as a car inspector for Pennsylvania Railroad for 50 years, retiring in 1990. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Destroyer-Escort Sailors Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1333, Asbury Park; and an associate member at the Washington Engine Company, Matawan. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Emm, in 1989; three sisters, Anna Glunk, Ethel Miller and Marie Thorne; and three brothers, Stephen Emm, Charles Emm and Joseph Emm. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Emm-Baker and Bruce Baker of Bradley Beach, and Anna and Sal Glunk-Circelli of Belmar; two brothers, Anthony Emm of New Providence, and Joseph Emm of Matawan; his sister, Elizabeth Kircher of East Orange; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. VIRGINIA G. YOUNG, 84, of Aberdeen died Jan. 30 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she lived in East Keansburg, and Union Beach for 25 years prior to moving to Aberdeen. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant and member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. She also attended St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, John Young, in 1986. She is survived by her son, John Young Jr. of Aberdeen; and two grandchildren, John P. Young of Edison and Tara Carr of Toms River; and one great-grandson, Jacob Young. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
AGNES H. MODZELEWSKI, 85, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died Jan. 31 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Port Monmouth for the past 53 years. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Modzelewski, in 1999. She is survived by her son, Stanley Modzelewski of Maben, Miss.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Robert Eckert of Port Monmouth, and Jane and Robert Earle of Jackson; a sister, Janie Williams of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. DOROTHY VEIT, 76, of Middletown died Jan. 31 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Queens, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown 10 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Veit in, 1984. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hans of Middletown; two sisters, Edith Rodman of Breezy Point, N.Y., and Marie Hansen of Naples, Fla.; and four grandchildren. GEORGE H. HIBBERD, 86, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen died Feb. 3 at Victoria House Health Care Center, Matawan. Born in Paterson, he resided in Irvington prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach. He was a retired machinist for 29 years at Ballantine Brewery, Newark. Prior to that, he was an engineer for 20 years at the New Jersey Disabled Veterans Home, Menlo Park. He served with the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was the second police officer to be hired by the [old] Madison Township Police Department, and was a member of the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad. He was also a member of both the Monmouth Shore Points and Raritan Road Runners motorcycle clubs. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Backfisch Hibberd of Cliffwood Beach; four daughters, Donna Kipila of Cliffwood Beach, Denise Reisert and Dawn Bittner, both of Aberdeen, and Debra Ordner of Hope Valley, R.I.; and a brother, Frederick Hibberd of Toms River. A funeral service will be Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
ERIC "RICK" SARGEANT, 40, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen died Jan. 29 at home following a lengthy illness. He was a coach for Matawan-Aberdeen Babe Ruth League and Husky Indoor Soccer for several years. He was an avid fisherman and devoted father and husband. He is survived by his wife and son, Barbara and James, both of Cliffwood Beach; his parents, William and Irene; his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Joe Jucciarone of Old Bridge; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Debbie of South Amboy, Herb and Debbie of Sayreville, Gary and Phyllis of Pennsylvania, and Craig and Diane of Ewing; and several nieces and nephews.
MARY ANN MAIER CERA, 58, of Danville, Pa., and formerly of Matawan, died Dec. 27 at Geisinger Medical Center, Mahoning Township, Pa. Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Matawan prior to moving to Danville several years ago. She was a records analyst at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and also worked in its photography department and cardiac research center several years. A volunteer for the American Heart Association, she was instrumental in raising funds for the Danville Area Community Center. She was a graduate of Matawan Regional High School. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Marie Siepecky Maier. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Peter Cera of Danville; five sons, Peter Cera of Brookline, Mass., George Cera of Orlando, Fla., Paul Cera of West Hartford, Conn., Michael Cera of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and James Cera, Massachusetts; two daughters, Dr. Susan Cera of Charlotte, N.C., and Karen Cera of New York City; and five grandchildren. MARY VOLOCSIN, 71, of Middletown died Jan. 30 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, she lived there until relocating to Middletown in 1983. She was a business office worker at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for three years, retiring several years ago. Prior to that, she worked in the business office at Perth Amboy Hospital for 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Volocsin, in 1979. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and George Caga of Middletown; her granddaughter, Jennifer Caga of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. EILEEN WALSH WILLIAMS, 75 of the Lincroft section of Middletown died Jan. 2 at her daughter’s home in the Wayside section of Ocean Township. Born in Jersey City, she lived in North Middletown for 25 years, prior to moving to Lincroft 10 years ago. She was a homemaker, and active in Luftman Towers where she assisted in getting vital approvals passed. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Williams in 1976. She was a cashier for Kmart, Wall Township, for one year. Prior to that, she was a custodian for the Jersey City Board of Education for 25 years, retiring 10 years ago. DOLORES G. DOMBROSKI, 73, of Shrewsbury died Feb. 2 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Holmdel, she lived in Red Bank for 59 years prior to moving to Shrewsbury. She was a bank teller at PNC Bank, Red Bank, from 1956-94. Prior to that, she worked at Eisner’s, Red Bank; and operated her family’s Holmdel farm with her parents. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis V. Dombroski; her sister, Josephine Luccarelli; and her brother, Giovanni Greco. DOROTHY B. GROSS, 74, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died Jan. 27 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She resided in Buttzville prior to moving to Lincroft. She was a cook at a health-care facility for 45 years. She was a member of the Leonardo Senior Citizens, Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Gross, in 1994. She is survived by four sons, Ron Swayze of Beachwood, Raymond Gross of Gaffney, S.C., and Cliff Petroll and Craig Petroll, both of Baltimore; her daughter, Elaine Gross-Ozer of Lincroft; her sister, Kathryn of Buttzville; four brothers, Ernest Swayze and Bob Swayze, both of Buttzville, Clyde Swayze of Oxford, and Lester Swayze of Florida; and four grandchildren. YOLANDA "VIOLA" M. SHIAVONE RELLA, 87, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died Feb. 3 at Beachview Extended Care Facility, Keansburg. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there until moving to Lincroft in 1980. She was a machine operator for ILGWU, New York City, for 42 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. Ann’s Guild, Lincroft. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Rella, in 1996. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Joan Rella of Howell.
