HAZLET — An abandoned strip mall at Poole Avenue and Route 36 became the site of a massive blaze in the township Thursday night, which is currently under investigation by the Monmouth County fire marshal, township fire officials said Friday.

Responding to a call at about 10 p.m., Hazlet’s North Centerville and West Keansburg fire companies were aided by neighboring Union Beach, Middletown and Aberdeen companies to extinguish a fire at the former site of the popular Dad’s Deli in the former strip mall.

While the area is zoned primarily residential, no homes in close proximity to it were damaged as a result of fire ramifications.

However, Poole Avenue was cordoned off for a few hours as the blaze was tempered.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
