DOT to start resurfacing part of I-195

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will resurface more than 10 miles of I-195 eastbound from Howell Township to Jackson Township.

The $6.1 million resurfacing project started June 9 with complete reconstruction of the roadway expected in December, according to a press release from NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri.

“This resurfacing project follows the westbound portion of the reconstruction,” Kolluri said in the press release. “This concentrated effort to repair the deficient roadway will extend the lifespan of this stretch of I-195 by 12-15 years.”

NJDOT will perform construction at night in order to mitigate traffic impacts. Single lane closures will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Dates for each of the ramp detours will be announced in advance. Only one ramp will be closed at any given time.

NJDOT will install variable message signs to informmotorists of changes in traffic patterns during nighttime operations.
