Mr. Wherett, 78, formerly of Allenhurst, died Oct. 29, 2011, at Imperial Healthcare, Neptune. He was raised at his parents’ rooming house, the Wherwood, in Asbury Park. Mr. Wherett attended Rutgers University and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of lieutenant. He retired after 30 years at Bell Labs, where he worked in purchasing. Mr. Wherett was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Wherett, and a sister, Helen “Peggy” Bertholet. Surviving are his wife, Jean Wherett, of Lincroft; two daughters, Judith Lynn Wherett and her husband, Chet Braley, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Leslie Ann and her husband, Kevin Dyer, of Little Silver; four grandchildren; five nieces; and three nephews. A memorial gathering will be held at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, 2-5 p.m. Nov. 13, with aWords of Remembrance service at 4:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.altz.org.
