Time for Keyport to look beyond loyalty to friends

Enough with the Sandra Shevlin pity party (“New board member’s comment was a cheap shot,” May 3, and “New board member should be as graceful as Shevlin,” May 10). I am continuously amazed people even consider one comment an important issue to waste time on. So what, he said what he said! What about the many fabricated comments made about the librarian publicly in a speech given at a Donaldson hearing nobody is privy to? Why isn’t there any accountability there? At least Peter Henning doesn’t lie, accepted responsibility, and even apologized for his spur-of-the-moment comment. Move on!

Keyport’s new Board of Education member, Henning, is an outstanding, intelligent and positive change to the B0E that has the support of the majority of members in the community. That is why he won the election. Henning and Renee Larkin are just two new BOE members. In my observations, it is time this community looks beyond loyalty to friends and realizes leadership change is necessary to move forward and provide our children now and in the future with educational resources that will carry through their lifetime. In fact, I can’t wait to see many other existing members on the BOE replaced with new members with no loyalties to anyone but our children.

Loyalty versus positive change was blatantly evident when Dr. Ed McNamara was renominated as president by the BOE members. At least new members Henning and Larkin voted against this decision because it is apparent they listened to the community that has made it obvious we no longer have nay faith in decisions made by Dr. McNamara. Talk about a blatant disregard to the community’s uproar for change.
